Every two to three years, we’ve packed up our lives. Boxes, memories, routines, and sometimes pieces of our hearts. This is the reality of the military lifestyle.
April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to honor the strength and resilience of the youngest members of military families. And let me tell you, they are some of the strongest people I know. April 15th is Purple Up Day for military kids.

The Resilient Heart of a Military Child
Military kids learn early how to say goodbye to homes, friends, familiar places, and family far away.
With each move comes:
- A new house
- A new school
- New teachers, rules, and friendships to build
They adapt, even when it’s hard. They help unpack, comfort siblings, and show up with brave little faces.
Their roots may spread across states or continents, but they grow tall anyway. They are undeniably so strong, compassionate, and wise beyond their years.
The Life of a Military Spouse
Being a military spouse means rebuilding your life over and over:
- New jobs
- New routines
- New support systems
Each move means finding new doctors, schools, babysitters, and ways to make your family feel at home. It’s exhausting but reminds us how resourceful and strong we’ve become, not because we want to, but because we have to.
Finding Our Village Again and Again
Every duty station means starting over. But it also means:
- Finding new friends who get it
- Trading stories, meals, hand-me-downs, support
- Creating a village before the boxes are unpacked
It’s the small things:
- A neighbor bringing coffee
- A mom at the park saying, “PCS’d here too?”
- A friend who helps when your spouse is away
This Month, We Celebrate
To the military kids who’ve lived in five homes before age ten…
To the parents who make new houses feel like home overnight…
To the parents who miss milestones but never stop showing up…
To the families holding it together with love, grit, and group chats…
This month and every month, we see you.
Military life isn’t easy, but it’s powerful, purposeful, and full of heart.
