Our youngest whose nicknamed Cheese-Dog by his best friend (and yes, it stuck), is officially five, and I swear it happened overnight. He’s the last little piece of our family, and what a joyful piece he’s been.

This is Cheese-Dog.

From Sweet Baby to Silly Soul

From the very beginning, he’s been a sweet boy. A happy baby, a good eater, and just the sweetest little light. Born during the Covid-19 Pandemic. He brought calm where we didn’t know we needed it, and joy in ways we never expected.

In daycare and preschool, he was always the shy one at first who was quiet in the corner, a little unsure, but he’d warm up with his signature sweetness. He’s the kid everyone loves. Gentle, kind, and just enough silly to surprise you once he feels comfortable.

The Goofball Era

Now? Oh, he’s a full-on goofball. He dances like nobody’s watching (and hopes that everyone is). He tells jokes that don’t make sense and then laughs harder than anyone. He’s found his voice, and it’s loud, joyful, and one hundred percent him.

He has this magical way of bringing light into any room. He doesn’t try too hard, he just is. Being around him is easy and fun and full of moments that remind me how special these years are.

Our Final Firsts

There’s something extra emotional about watching your youngest grow up. Every milestone feels bigger. Every “last first” carries just a little more weight.

He’s our last baby. Our final stroller rides. Our last toddler bedtime routines. The end of diapers, pacifiers, and nursery toys. And now, we’re standing at the beginning of kindergarten.

How did we get here so fast?

A Full Heart

Cheese-Dog, you complete us. You are joy and silliness and gentleness all wrapped up in one incredible little human. You are the baby that made our family whole, and watching you grow into yourself is one of the greatest gifts of my life.

As you head off to kindergarten, know this: we’re so proud of who you are. You’ll always be our baby, no matter how tall you grow or how goofy your jokes get.

And yes, we’ll probably still call you Cheese-Dog when you’re in college.
