There are days I hang up the phone after talking to a family member or friend and just sit in silence and wonder if I even shared anything real.

Yes, I gave the updates.
Yes, I said things we’re “good.”
Yes, I even laughed a little.

But the truth? They don’t know what’s really going on behind the smile.

The Hidden Struggles

They don’t see:

  • The yelling matches between siblings before 8 a.m.
  • The battles to get shoes on or teeth brushed.
  • The way I stood in the kitchen this morning with my coffee, wondering how I’m going to make it through the day.

They don’t see the chaos that lives in our home or the exhaustion written on my face once the kids are finally asleep. They don’t know the noise in my head and the pressure, the overthinking, the wondering if I’m doing any of this right.

Why I Don’t Always Share

And part of that is on me. Because I don’t tell them.

Sometimes I think they wouldn’t understand, especially those without kids. It’s not that I don’t love them. It’s that trying to explain this daily tug-of-war between holding it together and falling apart feels impossible.

And honestly? I don’t want to seem like I’m always complaining. So I dress up the struggle. I polish it with jokes, tuck it behind positive updates, and sprinkle in good stories to balance it out.

What I Truly Need

But deep down? I crave someone to see the whole picture, not just the smiling snapshots.

I want to be known. Fully. Even if I’m still figuring myself out in the process.

So if you’ve felt that same distance between what people see and what you’re carrying and know this: You’re not alone. Your story matters. Especially the messy parts.
