Weight of the Years
The past few years have tested me in ways I never expected. Life with three kids is already a whirlwind, but add in a premature middle child with ADHD and ODD, and our days have often felt like a storm we’re learning to navigate in real time. His entire life has been a challenge, filled with love, yes, but also with daily struggles, emotional highs and lows, and moments that push us right to the edge.
Learning to Accept Help
At some point, I realized I couldn’t keep running on empty. I made a decision that felt overdue: I accepted help. We got my son evaluated, diagnosed, and on medication. I got my other two kids involved in sports and activities to keep them busy and thriving. And most importantly, I got help for myself. I started therapy, began taking medication for my own mental health, and finally began to breathe again, even if only in small moments at first.
Life as a Military Family
Being a military family adds another layer to everything. We live far from extended family, constantly moving away from the life and friendships we’ve built. Just when we start to feel settled, the boxes come back out, and we’re starting all over again. My husband is my best friend and my anchor, always supporting our family through every change. I have friends I keep in touch with, but as time goes on and our lives get busier, the connection sometimes feels harder to keep.
Why I Started Blogging
That’s where blogging comes in. My therapist suggested it as an outlet or a way to release my feelings, frustrations, lessons, experiences, and little joys of life without always feeling like I’m unloading on the people I love. It became my safe place to share without guilt, to tell the truth without worrying I’m being “too negative,” and to celebrate the good without glossing over the reality.
Finding Joy in Coffee
And then there’s coffee. If you know me, you know I love it. Coffee reviews quickly became my favorite part of blogging, and a small ritual of joy that fits right into my life. Sitting in a cozy coffee shop, taking that first sip, and sharing my honest thoughts is something I look forward to. It’s my little slice of calm.
Moving Forward
I’m still new to all of this. I haven’t even fully opened up to my family and friends about my blogging yet. For now, I’m letting it grow naturally, letting my words find their way to people who might need to hear them. As a mom, a military spouse, and a woman who’s finally learning to put her own well-being first, I’ve learned that our “family” can also be the community of people walking the same road beside us.
This is my space.
