Because I didn’t always drink coffee… but now? I can’t imagine life without it.
I haven’t always been a coffee drinker. Sure, I wanted to be, especially when I was little and watching my grandma enjoy her flavored coffees. She always had some fun new blend to try, and I’d sneak sips of her vanilla hazelnut or cinnamon roll brews like I was part of a secret club. It felt fancy, warm, and comforting. But still, coffee wasn’t part of my daily life… yet.
Daily Ritual
Everything changed after baby number two. We were stationed in Las Vegas, adjusting to a new routine, a new city, and a lot less sleep. One day I made a cup of coffee at home just to survive the morning fog, and then another the next day… and another. At first, it was just caffeine. But soon, coffee became my ritual of a small act that helped me reclaim my mornings.
Coffee Journey Through Different Phases
At first, I drank my coffee the same way every day. Reliable. Predictable. Comforting. Then, slowly, I started experimenting. I didn’t love every change, but it became a little adventure.
Over the years I’ve tried just about every coffee contraption out there:
☕ A Keurig
☕ An iced coffee machine
☕ Instant coffee/espresso
☕ A cold brew maker
☕ An espresso machine
Let’s just say I went through a whole phase of being my own barista, and I loved it for what it was.
Connection and Comfort
By my third child, something shifted. I craved coffee not just for the caffeine, but for the experience. I started going out for coffee more often, not just for the drink, but for the break, the joy, and the connection.
My husband started joining too. At first, he was just keeping me company. But eventually, he got curious. Now we try new spots, rate lattes, and debate roast levels like we’re pros (we’re not, but it’s fun to pretend).
Coffee became a little love language in our home. It’s a pause button. A shared joy. A reason to explore.Though my coffee journey didn’t begin until adulthood, it’s now part of my motherhood, my marriage, and my self-care. It’s not just about the drink, it’s about what it represents.
It’s a moment of peace in the chaos, and a little daily joy that’s just for me. And a way to connect with my husband.
